This is why this survey is key at this point in time. The gazette notice that was issued in 1997 can no longer give the accurate picture of the hardship areas.
From the survey, it will be interesting for teachers in Machakos county to know that Matungulu is not a hardship area.
In Kisumu County, some areas such as Nyakach are hardship areas. Nyando has lost its hardship status based on the survey. The 1997 notice used to recognize parts of Nyando as hardship areas due to the floods.
In Nandi County, Tinderet is still a hardship area (Corrected)-Although some teachers there do not earn hardship allowance.
Several parts of Lamu, Makueni are hardship areas.
Much of the areas in counties in Western Kenya (Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma and Trans Nzoia) are not considered as hardship areas.
At the coastal region, Kwale and Kilifi have been stripped of the hardship status. Very few sub counties there are considered to be hardship areas.
Isiolo and Marsabit are still intact.
Meru County has a good number of hardship areas.
The above areas have just been cited as preliminary results. The list of all hardship areas will be of great value to teachers.
