These
are the figures that you need to know about the current the current teachers
strike;
TSC
in the 2015/2016 budget was allocated Kshs. 181 billion.
The
Laptop project was allocated Kshs. 17.58 billion.
The
50-60%, as per the Government, will cost an extra kshs. 17 billion per year.
The
Lowest Paid teacher in Kenya currently earns a minimum basic salary of Kshs.16,692.
The
lowest paid teacher will earn a minimum basic salary of Kshs. 26, 707 in the
2016/2017 financial year.
In November 2014, the basic salaries of the TSC secretariat were revised with a
clerk earning a basic salary of Kshs. 35,533 (Way above what a fresh graduate
teacher earns). Note that a clerk has lower qualifications that a graduate
teacher.
A fresh graduate teacher earns Kshs. 31,020 basic salary while a fresh graduate working under the TSC secretariat earns Kshs. 55,659 minimum basic salary.
For the 50-60% to be implemeted without taking into consideration the payment of arrears, only Kshs. 1.3 billion will be required for this month. Out of this Kshs. 1.3 billion, Kshs. 391 million will go back directly to the Government as PAYE tax.
In the latest Auditor General report, the Ministry of Education (MOEST), the Auditor General found reason to raise an adverse opinion over an expenditure of KShs. 1,567,838,117 (Kshs. 1.567 billion) that had no supporting documents.
The Auditor general further found reason(s) to raise adverse opinion over Kshs. 25,628,901 and Kshs. 323,183,243 (Kshs. 323 million) that were used to "complete projects" with the price tag inflated by 80% and 60% respectively.
