As per SRC
directive, several devolved units have allocated funds to establish/ run
schemes for their workers.
Almost KShs.
1 billion has been set aside for the County civil servants car loan and
mortgage loan in different counties. Several counties are projecting to
increase
in the allocation to the scheme in the 2016/2017 financial year.
In Machakos
County, Kshs. 200,000,000 (200M) has been set aside in the 2015/2016 budget for
the Machakos County car and mortgage loan scheme. The allocation is for this
financial year only. The allocation is projected to be increased to Kshs. 210,000,000
in the 2016/2017 financial year and Kshs. 220,500,000 in the 2017/2018
financial year. So in Machakos County, the scheme is set to receive about KShs.
630,500,000 (almost a billion) in the next 3 years.
In Kirinyaga
County, the County Government has not really allocated any funds. However, it
has drafted a plan to kick start the car and home loan scheme for its civil
servants at a cost of Kshs. 100M in the 2015/2016 financial year.
In Nyandarua
County, Kshs. 20,000,000 (KShs. 20 million) has been set aside for the scheme.
The county has projected that the allocation will grow ten-fold by the end of
the 2015/26 financial year to reach Kshs. 200 Million in the 2016/2017 fiscal
year.
Baringo
County has allocated Kshs. 40,000,000 (40M) for a car loan scheme only in this
year budget. It has not included the mortage loan in this particular
allocation.
Bomet
County has stopped its scheme after allocating Kshs. 3,000,000 for the MCA’s
car loan in the previous fiscal year. In this fiscal year, Bomet has not
allocated any funds for the scheme.
Some of the
counties that have not allocated any funds for the loan scheme in their
2015/2016 budgets are Nairobi, Taita Taveta County and Nandi.
