The
following are the new rates of job group A house allowance in Kenya as of 12th
December 2014.
House allowance in
Nairobi
House
allowance of civil servants in job group A has been increased from KSh. 3,000
to Ksh. 7,500 per month for those working in Nairobi.
House allowance in
County Headquarters
Civil
servants in Job group A in the towns of Mombasa, Kisumu, Malindi, Kilifi, Lamu,
Kwale and Naivasha will earn a house
allowance of Ksh. 3,125 per month. Previously, civil servants in Job Group A
eardned a house allowance of KSh. 2,500.
Civil
servants in Job group A in the towns of Nyeri, Eldoret, Kericho, Kakamega,
Kisii, Embu, Nanyuki, Nakuru, Lodwar and Garissa will earn a house allowance of
KSh. 2,500 per month. Previously, civil servants in this group earned a house
allowance of KSH. 2000.
House Allowance in
Other Areas
Civil
servants in job group A in other towns will earn a house allowance of Ksh.
2,250 per month. Previously, the civil in job group A earned a house allowance
of KSH. 1,800.
Remarks
The
house allowances are highest in Nairobi followed by county headquarters. House
allowances in other areas are much lower.
Job
Group A earns the lowest house allowance in the entire public service. The
highest house allowance is paid to workers in Job group Q. House allowance for
job group Q is Ksh. 80,000 per month in Nairobi.
Quality of living
based on the current house allowance
Workers
in Job Group A will secure better housing conditions in areas such as Lodwar,
Garissa, Kilifi and Kwale with the given house allowance. Those in towns like Nairobi, Nakuru Kisumu and Eldoret may not secure good houses with the given house
allowances.
The
cost of house rent is much lower in the towns of Kilifi, Lodwar, Garissa,
Kilifi and Kwale compared to Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu and Eldoret. In Nairobi,
Nakuru, Kisumu and Eldoret, the house allowance can only secure a worker a single-room
house.
