Chesikaki ward

Located in Bungoma County, Chesikaki ward is a county assembly ward in Mt. Elgon constituency. We will present you a wide range of information in a fact sheet like format.

3.  Toroso sub location.
4.  Chesikaki sub location.

Chesikaki ward has a population of 24,062 according to the 2009 census. The ward has an area of 39.50km2.

Development in Cheptais ward

A lot of development in Cheptais ward is still required in sectors such as roads, sanitation, health and education. Most of the roads in Cheptais ward are murram roads. More than half of the population in Cheptais ward does not have piped water.

91.8% of families in Chesikaki ward rely on firewood as a source of fuel. Another 3.6% of families rely on charcoal as a source of fuel. 4.5% of the residents rely on paraffin.

The only renewable source of energy that has a significant number of families relying on it is Biogas. 0.2% of families in the ward rely on Biogas.

Sources of light
A majority of residents rely on Tin lamps (Kiroboi) as a source of light at night. 70.5% of the residents rely on paraffin tin lamps for lighting at night.

Paraffin lanterns (Taa) comes second as a source of light with 22.6% of the residents relying on them.






Materials used to construct Houses
More than half of the households in Chesikaki ward have their homes made of mud. Only 14.1% have their homes made using cement.

Remarks
The quality of the house that a family lives in is a reflection of that family’s income. Since most of the families in Chesikaki ward live in homes made of mud, it is important for the political leadership to find economic solutions that will elevate the economic status of the residents.


Sources of water in Chesikaki ward
Despite of the fact that the ward is located in an area that receives heavy rainfall, rainwater collection is yet to be a major source of domestic water. The good news is that water scarcity in the area is not a challenge due to the heavy rainfall.

Less than half of the families in the ward have piped water. A significant majority of the residents rely on streams and rivers as a source of domestic water.

 





Education Standards
More than half of the residents (61.3%) of this ward have attained primary school education. However, only 20.2% of the residents have attained secondary school education.
18.0% of the residents did not attend school at all.
