Chepyuk ward

Located in the north western parts of Bungoma County, Chepyuk ward is a county assembly ward in Mt. Elgon constituency. 

There are four sub locations in Chepyuk ward. These are;

1.  Chepyuk sub location.
2.  Kabura sub location.
3.  Emia sub location.
4.  Chepkurkur sub location.
5.  Korng'otuny sub location.
6.  Kaimugul sub location.

Chepyuk ward has a population of 25,442 according to the 2009 census. The ward has an area of 94.00 km2. 41% of families in the ward have between 4 to 6 children.

Economic status in Chepyuk Ward
Agriculturally, Chepyuk ward is highly productive. However, land squabbles involving squatters have made the county perform below its agricultural productivity potential.

Business activities in the ward are further hampered by lack of tarmacked roads and electricity.

Source of fuel and Light

94.4% of the residents rely on firewood and tin lamps (Kiroboi) as a source of energy and light respectively. Renewable sources of enery such as Solar and biogas are yet to be used a significant number of residents in the ward.

The political leadership (Chepyuk ward MCA and the Mt. Elgon MP) can reach out to partners who can provide solar lamps and lanterns to the residents.


Water

Cheptais are leads in the whole of Bungoma County in terms of the number of families who have piped water. 51.3% of the families living in Cheptais ward have piped water. However, more than a quarter of the families in the ward rely on streams and rivers for domestic water.
