Northeastern Kenya Teachers Transferred

A majority of the teachers who were working in Northeastern Kenya have been transferred to Kilifi County. There replacement in the Northeastern region is not well known as at now. There are speculations though that TSC will hire another crop of teachers  to replace the transferred teachers.

In the latest recruitment by TSC, the replacement of teachers in Northeastern following their transfer is not clear.  As per the replacement of teachers that was advertised on 23 September 2015, the number of teachers to be replaced is summarized briefly as shown below;

Garissa County
In Garissa County, TSC announced the replacement of only three secondary school teachers (i.e. NEP Girls, Modogashe and County high). At the Primary school level,  TSC advertised for replacement of only 7 teachers.

Mandera and Wajir County
In Mandera and Wajir County, TSC announced the replacement of only 6 and 7 primary school teachers respectively. At the secondary school level, TSc advertised only 7 replacement in Wajir and 4 in Mandera.

A Forgotten Region
Since coming to Power, the president has toured various countries such as China, US and the Netherlands itself. However, since coming to power, he has not visited any of the three counties in Northeastern Kenya even for a Harambee. Anyway, this is not the purpose of this article. But is it not reasonable to question how the people in Northeastern will be able to vote for the President and the main opposition leader in 2017?

Just to inform on the current state of affairs in Northeastern. Since the fled of teachers, public secondary schools and primary schools have not had smooth learning. Some classes, particularly the lower primary and lower secondary school classes, have not been taught a single lesson since April 2015. KCSE and KCPE exams will come as a wave of disaster for the candidates in the region because most of the candiates can barely read and understand the "Complex" English used in KCSE and KCPE exams. Sympathizes of Pesa Mashinani goes to the candidates of Northeastern Kenya.

Massive Replacement in the Pipeline?
While Untrained Teachers have been hired by the County Government to teach in the schools, the massive exodus of trained and skilled teachers calls for massive replacement of the transferred teachers. The only challenge in Northeastern is that you can find a whole village where there is no single candidate who is qualified to be trained as a teacher. This challenge stems from the marginalization of the region since the colonial times. Those who are qualified to be trained as teachers are easily po@ched by NGOs in the area to carry out humanitarian duties.
